What equipment and staff roles do I need to begin CGM?
These checklists of equipment and staff roles will help you use CGM in your practice.
Most of the required equipment to implement CGM in your practice already exists. To deploy and sustain use of CGM in a busy practice, several pieces of equipment are needed:
- A Windows or Apple computer that can access the Internet
- Internet access, ideally high-speed
- Email address for provider and nursing staff
- A download cable
Staff can expect to download patient data, educate patients on device use, and manage patient time-in-range. A multidisciplinary group of team members can support a successful launch of the program; some staff roles to consider are:
- A Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (DCES) or a Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE)
- Pharmacist for medication expertise
- Staff champion knowledgeable in CGM downloading
- Abbot or Dexcom device representative
- Medicaid Managed Care partners
